3 Proven Marketing Strategies To Grow Your Interior Design Business

Referrals and network marketing are great methods to gaining new clients, and also meeting potential ones. However, these methods either heavily rely on your time, or, you’re leaving your business fate in someone else’s hands. What if there are other, more effective ways you could be not only gaining new clients, but also, building longer term relationships & brand awareness?

Online Marketing for Interior Designers

Running an interior design business, like most businesses, has its challenges, but by staying on top of your online presence, you will definitely reap the rewards. Not to mention, you can do these things from your home!

It takes dedication, patience, and the right marketing strategies to achieve success. As an owner of an interior design business, you should have a well-planned marketing strategy to grow and build a brand that stands out from others.

In today's digital era, there are various marketing tools available that can help you grow your interior design business. In this blog post, we will discuss 3 proven marketing strategies to grow your interior design business - Social Media, Google SEO, and Email Marketing.

Before we dive in, I’d like to point out 3 (yes, I seem to do everything in 3s) basic marketing strategies you want to complete before you go any further:

1. Before developing a strategic plan, it's important to establish clear business objectives and goals. Taking the time to define these concrete targets will make it easier to work backwards and create a roadmap to success.

2. A vital component of any strategic plan is conducting good market research. This includes studying your ideal clients, analyzing what the competition is doing, and identifying industry trends. By being selective about your ideal customer profile, you'll be able to tailor your strategy to their specific needs and preferences.

3. To stand out in today's crowded marketplace, it's essential to establish a unique selling proposition and brand positioning. By honing in on your niche and doubling down on your strengths, you'll be able to differentiate yourself from the competition and create a lasting impression on your target audience.

Marketing Strategy No.1 - Social Media

Social media is one of the most effective ways to market your interior design business. With billions of active users on various social media platforms, it is easy to reach out to your target audience and showcase your design ideas.

Start by creating & (important!) optimizing your profiles on platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Pinterest.

Make sure to post pictures and, especially videos, of your work to help your followers understand your design aesthetics. You can also run paid ads to reach a broader audience and widen your customer base. Make sure you know your budget for paid ads though, and you also want to keep an eye on your return on investment (ROI) for this.

Reach out to potential customers, and connect with them on your social media accounts. LinkedIn is especially a fantastic platform for business-business connections. On this platform, when you send people connection requests, you’re able to build your follower list too! This will not only put more eyes on your content, but also you'll be able to start relationships with potential clients.

Engage with your followers by replying to their comments and direct messages.

You can even collaborate with influencers and other brands (who have a bigger follower number) to expand your reach. This is another powerful way of positioning your brand in the industry.

Marketing Strategy No.2 - Google SEO

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a technique to provide your website with better visibility in search engines like Google.

With Google being the most popular search engine, appearing on the first page of the search results can get you more traffic, leads, and clients for your interior design business.

Focus on creating high-quality content on your website that includes relevant keywords.

Optimize your website's loading speed, and ensure it's mobile-friendly. Also, leverage Google My Business to add your business location and hours of operation to improve your visibility on Google Maps.

There are so many techniques for improving your site’s SEO, such as creating content like, blog posts and YouTube videos. You should also submit your sitemap to Google, on Google Search Console. This is free to do, and speeds up Google being able to crawl your site pages, and index your website.

Organic SEO is a long term game, and relies a little on persistence and patience. You also have the option of Google (paid) ads. Set aside a budget for this, it is definitely worthwhile in the early stages, whilst you also work on your organic growth.

Marketing Strategy No.3 - Email Marketing

Email marketing involves sending emails to both your customers and potential customers to promote your interior design business. It is a cost-effective way to reach your target audience and keep them informed about updates, promotions, and new services.

Start by building an email list of potential and existing clients. One of the best ways to start today is to create opt-in gifts. This can be in many forms. The most popular one is creating a free PDF, something like a checklist, guide, step-by-step process, etc. PDFs are also the most downloaded opt-ins too.

Free opt-in gifts can also be videos, webinars (live or recorded), and various other formats.

Once you’ve started building your list, focus on creating interesting & engaging content in your emails.

You can also offer exclusive discounts to your subscribers to encourage them to avail of your services. Track and analyze your email campaigns to see what works and what doesn't.

You can even automate your email campaigns to save time and effort.

Emails have a far bigger open and click rate, compared to social media. It's a lot more personal and targeted. Another thing to note is that you don’t own any of your social media followers (those companies do), however, you do own your email list, and so this becomes a far bigger company asset!
